John Winthrop was first Governor of Massachusetts and leader and founder of New England Society. This little biography provides the general reader with the life of Winthrop and the world he lived in. His family, neighbours, religion, morals etc. are discovered and particularly his understanding of society. Born in Suffolk in 1588 into a Puritan family. As a young man he sailed for America in 1630 in order to find a more congenial Religious environment. John Cotton preached his Farewell Sermon. Well written and most enjoyable.
